Bad breath: causes, symptoms and remedies
The main causes of bad breath are incorrect oral hygiene, the decomposition of food stuck between the teeth, periodontal diseases, tooth decay and gastric reflux.
Bad breath has its foundations in the back of the mouth, under the surface of the tongue, the area where sulfur-producing bacteria are deposited.
The causes are many, starting from the intake of specific foods, such as garlic and onion, up to actual pathologies.
Bad breath can have different facets, depending on the type of infection to which it is connected: nasopharyngeal infections, such as rhinitis, sinusitis and pharyngitis, and lung diseases, such as bronchiectasis or lung abscess, are indicative of the presence of mucopurulent and necrotic material .
Sometimes, taking medications, such as some antibiotics, can also cause bad breath.
What to do if your breath smells?
The main thing is to check if you maintain correct daily oral hygiene behavior and if not, take action by brushing your teeth every day. Drinking lots of water also helps resolve the problem. If it persists, it is best to contact your doctor.
